Tips and Tricks for your Android Phone

Here is a collection of tips and tricks for your Android phone. They focus on Android 2.2 (Froyo) and higher but can often also be used on earlier versions. This is a growing list which I will add to on a regular basis. If there is a particular topic you would like covered please leave a comment below.

Backing up your contacts
Contacts are one of the easiest things to back up on modern Android phones (Froyo 2.1 and higher). Even with the older Android phones you can easily download a program from the market to back up your information. Now granted many will say this isn’t necessary because the contacts are automatically backed up to the Gmail account you the phone up with. That is correct to a point. A properly configured Android phone will in fact automatically back up your contacts up to the gmail.com website. All you have to do is add a Google GMail email account before you start adding contacts. However, I have seen many cases where people have gotten new Android phones and for one reason or another the contacts never synced with the Gmail account. Also it is also good to never rely on just one place for backups. This is because, as much as we would like to think differently, Gmail is not fallible and could cause your data to corrupt. For instance I have seen cases when all of a sudden a users contacts were suddenly deleted from their phone. Regardless of if this was user error or not, a separate back up would ease the pain should this ever happen to you.
