Finally got Windows 8 Dev Preview installed today in VirtualBox. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that first. Oh well. Here’s the settings I used. The networking is specifically important seems a lot of people have had trouble getting it set up. I will update this more later. Looks great as you can see from the picture below. Tiles look just like Windows Phone 7 and are designed for tablets users. My settings are after the break…

Exporting Your Contacts on Android 2.1
From time to time you might want to get a copy of your contacts from your Android phone. Normally any contacts that you add to your phone will automatically be uploaded to your Gmail account. However, for one reason or another they might not have. For example if the phone was never set up with a Gmail address or was set up with one after the contacts were added. Either way its a good idea to have a backup copy. How to do this will vary with which version you have. The steps below are for Android 2.1 (Eclair) but will also work on most other versions with minor changes.

Windows 8 Install Update
Just tried to install it on my system but failed with the 64 bit version. After installed system failed to setup based on incompatible hardware configuration. I think I’m going to wait till the next version comes out to play with it.
Also not very keen on the new boot manager. Causes the system to reboot every time a different OS is selected.
Windows 8 Developer preview is out
The Windows 8 Developer preview is out and available at Microsft’s Dev Center now. It currently comes in three flavors.
- Windows Developer Preview with developer tools English, 64-bit (x64).
- Windows Developer Preview English, 64-bit (x64)
- Windows Developer Preview English, 32-bit (x86)
The big difference is that the developer tools version has the following added in:
- 64-bit Windows Developer Preview
- Windows SDK for Metro style apps
- Microsoft Visual Studio 11 Express for Windows Developer Preview
- Microsoft Expression Blend 5 Developer Preview
- 28 Metro style apps including the BUILD Conference app
All the downloads are .ISO files and will need a DVD or bootable flashdrive to install. Be sure to have an 8GB flash drive or dual layer disk for the developer version as it is 5 GB. I don’t know why they couldn’t have shrunk it just a bit so that it would fit on a standard DVD?
When installing be sure to install on a separate partition or even better a different computer. As they state in the notes, this is not BETA quality and definitely not production ready. Also no activation is required.
Finally be patient when downloading your copy. The servers are a little taxed and it is taking me about an hour to download the ISO. No errors yet which is a testament to MS’s prep on this one.
Mobile Game programming is where it is at.
Great graphic showing why gaming is the huge money maker it is. Imagine making 1,000,000 a day from your game like Angry Birds does. See Graphic below….
